Congratulations to Prof. Judith Gal-Ezer, senior faculty member in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, on her election as a fellow to the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), one of the most prominent international associations in the field of computer science and computing.

ACM fellows, who represent the top one percent of all association members, are elected in recognition of long-term contributions to the field. Prof. Gal-Ezer was nominated due to her continued contribution to research and practice in the field of teaching computer science in Israel and abroad.

For more than 25 years, Prof. Gal-Ezer has led the development of the computer science curriculum in Israeli schools. The high school curriculum, which was implemented in the mid-1990s, is still highly regarded for its ground-breaking approach to formulating requirements, developing high-quality teaching materials, conducting research in teaching computer science, and training teachers. Prof. Gal-Ezer headed the professional committee for the computer science curriculum in the Ministry of Education, and she is a member of various international committees on teaching computer science. The results of her work have had a significant impact on computer science teaching worldwide.

Prof. Gal-Ezer was the driving force in establishing the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the Open University. She served as head of the department and was involved in developing textbooks and study materials for more than twenty academic courses. In addition, she also initiated, and was one of the leaders in formulating the syllabus for the master’s degree program in computer science.

A great source of pride for the Open University and Israel.
