A gatekeeper stands guard at an entrance, on the border between spaces. Porat’s The Gatekeeper , on the other hand, seeks to open a liminal space conveying messages of wandering, change, search, and attraction to the unknown and the unexpected, with flashes of the dark and surreal contained within. It touches on the ambivalence of temptation and rejection, smoothness and roughness, humor and anxiety. Together, the intuitive connections create an abundant and enthralling space deeply connected to artistic tradition.  The Gatekeeper deals with questions concerning realism and what lies beyond; the relationship between the visible and the perceived, and the gap between them; and dream, imagination and reality that constantly intermingle. Art evokes thoughts about desires, ideas, stories, colors, dynamics, and philosophies. It reflects eras and societies. Tom Porat expertly uses the variety of digital means at his disposal to create manipulations that increase this desire. We, the viewers, join this journey with open eyes, with pleasure and without restraints, floating with him on the wings of imagination and digital processing.
