Biography

Orr Karassin is a senior lecturer in public policy and environmental regulation. She completed her LL.B at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Faculty of Law, LL.M magnum cum laude at the Tel-Aviv University Faculty of Law and Ph.D at Bar-Ilan University Faculty of Law. Karassin received the Rothschild Fellowship and was a research fellow at the London School of Economics (LSE), Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment. Karassin works on the intersection of regulation and the environment. Her main research interests include private and public regulation of the environment, corporate sustainability and climate change regulation. Karassin is the author of Enforcement of Environmental Regulations: Increasing the Effectiveness of Environmental Protection Policies (in Hebrew). She has authored or co-authored articles on regulating climate change adaptation, funding mechanisms for climate change adaptation, interactions between private and public environmental regulation and antecedents to corporate social and environmental responsibility. Karassin has been responsible for the curriculum development of the public law program at the Open University. She has recently published a book on Regulation- from Theory to Practice. Karassin has been named by "Maariv" as one of the 10 'Dreamers' among 100 most influential people and groups promoting environmental protection in Israel. She serves as a professional representative of Israel on the Compliance Committee of the UNEP Barcelona Convention for the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea, is Vice Chair of the Israeli Society for Ecology and Environmental Sciences and the founder of the Israeli Association for Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability. She is currently working on a new research project focusing on Israel and the circular economy.
