Dr. Daria Vasyutinsky-Shapira is a postdoctoral researcher at the OUI Center for Digital Humanities. Daria is a historian and Hebrew paleographer, and is passionate about digital research tools. Her doctoral research, “Early Stages of Research of the Firkowicz Collections Manuscripts" was supervised by Prof. Daniel Lasker and Prof. Yonatan Meir of the Goldstein-Goren Department of Jewish Thought at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (2018). During her PhD program, Daria embraced the idea of combining computerized techniques with classical paleography. She subsequently joined the Visual Media Lab in the BGU Department of Computer Science as a paleography expert and began her research career as a digital humanist.
Through her research, Daria seeks to develop deep machine learning algorithms for the automatic analysis of medieval Hebrew manuscript images. During 2020-2022 her research was funded by the Yuval Ne'eman scholarship for Post Doctoral research in Digital Humanities (Israel Ministry of Science and Technology grant n. 3-16784) The results of this primary research were published in :

Daria's current project, "Deep learning for automatic dating of piyyutim (liturgical poems) from the Cairo Genizah" is being supervised by Prof. Ophir Münz-Manor of the Open University of Israel. Orcid ID: 0000-0002-4257-7882
