Findings RQ1: Changes to Systems-thinking To evaluate changes in children's understanding of complex systems, the interviews' responses were segmented and analyzed. Each response segment was coded 1 or 0 for the presence of 12 system-thinking concepts (Table 1). The frequency of each concept was calculated, and a mean was computed for each test (Table 2). Mid-level concept frequency decreased from pre- to posttest, with no overall increase observed.
