Rosenberg-Kima Education in Science and Technology Technion – Israel Institute of Technology Haifa, Israel rinatros@technion.ac.il Abstract This study introduces Expressive Coding (EC) as an interdisciplinary technique providing emotional support to improve the well-being of children living in Israel during the Iron Swords War . The EC technique integrates the traditional self-expressive exercise of the Six- Part-Story Method (6PSM) , wherein children create personal, projective stories involving a protagonist who has to complete a desired mission, with the block-based children’s programming platform of ScratchJr . Following a task-centered instructional design, the EC technique teaches children basic coding skills to help them execute their digital 6PSMs using coding. In a case study involving four children, narrative thematic analysis revealed the warzone-related themes of loneliness, insecurity, and reliance on supernatural forces for resolution. Findings support EC’s potential to facilitate personal story creation while developing technical skills, offering implications for educational and therapeutic applications. Keywords: Expressive Coding, Coding Instruction, Self-Expression, Emotional Support. תקציר מחקר זה מציג את שיטת התכנות האקספרסיבי ) Expressive Coding; EC ( כטכניקה בין - ת חומית המציעה תמיכה רגשית לתמיכה בילדים החיים בישראל ברקע מלחמת ״חרבות ברזל״. טכניקת ה - EC משלבת את התרגיל המסורתי של סיפור בשישה חלקים ) 6PSM ( – במסגרתו יוצרים ילדים סיפורים אישיים - השלכתיים הכוללים גיבור/ה בהשלימו/ה משימה נתונה – עם פלטפורמת התכנות לילדים ScratchJr . בהתבססה על הוראה ממוקדת - משימה, טכניקת ה - EC מלמדת מיומנויות תכנות בסיסיות לילדים ללא רקע קודם בקוד על - מנת לעזור להם לממש סיפור אישי דיגיטלי דרך כתיבת קוד. במסגרת חקר מקרה שכלל ארבעה ילדים ) M=9.6, SD=1.04 (, ניתוח תמטי של הסיפורים שנוצרו חשף נושאים הקשורים לאזורי מלחמה, כדוגמת בדידות, היעדר מוגנות, ותלות בכוחות על - טבעיים לפתרון קונפליקטים. הממצאים תומכים
