40 50 Years of Opportunity at the OUI Environment and Sustainability Research Center The OUI Environment and Sustainability Research Center, founded in 2023, conducts interdisciplinary research to address environmental and sustainability challenges. Our goal is to foster applied research that enhances environmental policy in Israel, focusing initially on local government responses to climate change and environmental quality. With Israel’s rapid urbanization and a projected population of 20 million by 2065, managing open spaces, resource use, and climate-resilient infrastructure are key future challenges. These issues are critical to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and require innovative solutions involving new technologies, global investment, and sound scientific evidence. Our center aims to be a leading force in urban sustainability research, providing data-driven solutions to complex environmental issues. We focus on sustainability transitions, climate risk mitigation, and environmental justice, supporting dialogue and informed decision- making. Our team includes experts from various disciplines, and our research is shared with stakeholders through accessible reports and discussions.
